Scottish Borders

Scrolling through my summer photos, I realized I never posted anything from my trip to the Scottish Borders in July. Although it seems like a lifetime ago, I went to visit my friend Zara at the end of my journey in Scotland. I took the bus down to Edinburgh where I met up with her and then we spent the day there exploring Dean Village, the city centre, and stopped for lunch near the University campus where Zara went to school. When we’d seen everything we wanted to see we hopped on the train to where Zara’s car was parked and drove to her aunt’s house where we were staying. We spent the evening walking around a neighbouring town before returning to the house to sleep.

In the morning, we went straight to Duns to meet up with some friends, Tasia and Lauren, and to see some of the town’s Reivers Week festivities. We got there just in time to see the ride out and then went for ice cream! Afterwards, the four of us piled into the car and drove around the borders and eventually onto Holy Island. We walked around the island and up to Lindisfarne Castle where we found the most gorgeous garden. We then headed back towards Berwick-upon-Tweed to walk along the Elizabethan town walls.

We eventually made our way to the Scottish side again and stopped in Eyemouth for the best chippy and my first king rib before venturing to St. Abbs where scenes from the new Avengers movie were filmed. St. Abbs is the cutest fishing village and we managed to get there just in time for sunset, and then of course for a bit of rain!

The next morning Zara and I took her car to Melrose to see the view of the Eildon Hills and then onto Kelso to see Smailholm tower. We went back into Duns to meet up with Tasia and Lauren for a bite to eat and then went searching for the Highland cows spotted close to town. Tasia then drove Zara and I back to Edinburgh where we caught the bus back up to Inverness for a wedding the next day. The Borders seem to be an overlooked part of the UK, but is a place I would not want to miss on any trip to Scotland.
