Day Trip to Lacombe

When covid hit last year, Marvin and I were constantly looking for things to do to get out of the house and appease our travel bug without exposing ourselves to hotels and large areas of people. In the summer we started going on day trips from Edmonton, and had a few outings planned with my parents. One of our favourites was to Lacombe.

Lacombe is known as the mural capital of Alberta, and is full of these lively paintings around every corner. We didn’t have to look too hard to find any of these murals, and enjoyed walking through the town to see them. On our walk, we ended up stopping at a little sandwich shop called Kavaccino’s. With so many provincial restrictions, this was one of the only places open, and was a nice stop after our drive out to the town. Once we finished wandering the town, we drove out to the Ellis Farm Bird. This little sanctuary was so cute, and it was so lovely to explore somewhere new while being outside!

On the way back into the town centre, we stopped at Blindman Brewing for some refreshments before dinner. They had a perfect covid patio set up outside with food trucks and lot’s of seating. We didn’t try any of the food there however, because we had plans to eat at Cilantro & Chive, which was so worth the drive out. Honestly, even if you just want to drive to Lacombe for dinner, this place was worth it. I basically had to be rolled back to the car before driving back into Edmonton.

I’m curious how things are looking out in Lacombe now that restrictions are slowly being lifted. Maybe we’ll have to make another trip out there this summer, but in the meantime, I hope that if you’re looking for somewhere easy to explore, or just some last minute day trips from Edmonton, you consider Lacombe because we had SO much fun!
