Caves and Mountain Slides

For our second adventure out of Wengen we took the train back into Lauterbrunnen where we picked up our car and drove towards Grindelwald. On our way, we stopped at the St. Beatus Caves, hiked up the hill to get there and then ventured through the dark cave system inside. Legend says this cave is where St. Beatus fought and killed the dragon living there. The path is very well lit through the caves, and we walked for about an hour before finding our very own dragon on the way out. We then sat out at the restaurant there for lunch before finishing off our visit with a quick stop at the cave’s museum.

Once we’d all piled back into the car, we started driving towards Grindelwald. I’d seen an advertisement for a mountain toboggan run you can do there so we decided to check it out. A few years ago our family had done a toboggan run in Austria that was amazing, so I was so excited to relive the dream! We parked our car in the village there and took a gondola up the mountain to get to the toboggan site. The gondola was packed with loads of tourists heading for the same activity. When we finally reached the top we were so disappointed to see how small the run ended up being and that it was more of a children’s activity than for adults. We decided to do a couple runs each anyway, and I’m glad we did. Although not as advertised, I still had fun racing down the mountain and we had a good laugh about it afterwards.

We headed back to Lauterbrunnen to ditch the car, had a quick coffee, and headed back up to Wengen for our final night in the mountains.

xx
