I can’t believe 2022 has come to an end! It has been the best year of my life and went by in the blink of an eye. We were finally able to see our friends and family after many virtual game nights (thank you Jackbox Games), we got to travel again, and best of all Marvin and I got married! Separate post on that to come.
Easing back into travel post-lockdown was occasionally anxiety inducing as flights were unreliable and catching covid was trip-ending, but these were my favourite travel memories of the year:
Low-risk day trips to start the year off included driving out to nearby nature scapes, going for a walk, and getting home in time to use the bathroom without the gas station germs. My favourite winter walk was in St. Albert at the Lois Hole Provincial Park.
This one also doesn’t really count as travel, but maybe I can convince you to come visit Edmonton instead. Every year we walk through the Flying Canoe Festival in town and then order takeout while warming up by the fire back at home. Of course we wear snow pants, parkas, mitts and toques, but somehow it still takes half an hour to regain feeling in my fingies!
Finally the good stuff. In March, Marvin and I went on a ski trip to celebrate some good friends getting married. We took a party bus to Kimberley, B.C. and spent the weekend on the slopes, in the hot tub, and eating the best food. Marvin and I aren’t the best snowboarders in the game, but we love being in the mountains anyway.
The year of weddings continued with a trip to Canmore with my mom for a gorgeous mountain ceremony. My mom and I spent the rest of the weekend going on walks and finding the best cocktails and food in town.
At the end of July my whole family went to Prince Edward Island to visit my grandparents. One of my favourite places in the world is on PEI walking along the rugged red shorelines. We stayed at a cottage together and had the best time being with family and playing tourist on weekend trips to Charlottetown.
The summer trip continued across the pond for our Scotland wedding. We travelled straight to Inverness to prepare for the big day, and then showed my family around the Isle of Skye and down to Edinburgh. Marvin and I returned to Inverness afterwards to spend some more quality time with his family.
From Inverness, we flew to London to spend a week on our honeymoon. Since we’ve both been to London a few times before, we decided to research some “less-touristy” attractions to see. We did however have to go around on the London Eye as we’d never been on it before.
It was so fun exploring Canada and the UK with family and friends this year and I can’t wait to see where we end up in 2023!
