Hot Air Balloons

One of the coolest things I’ve done so far on this trip was going to the FIG Hot Air Balloon Festival. People come from around the world to showcase their balloons and I’m so happy I had the chance to see it!

Last weekend we drove out to Leon to catch the festival. We spent the night there and in the morning woke up at the butt crack of dawn to get down to the festival grounds. Balloons started going even before the sun showed its face. It was so beautiful to see the balloons and sun rising up at the same time. So many of the balloons had the weirdest shape. There was one that looked like Spongebob, an alligator, a giant baby, and a coke bottle. We spent a few hours at the park watching the balloons and drinking Atole and then headed back into town for breakfast and exploring.

We didn’t end up seeing a ton of Leon, just a few shoe stores and buildings. Leon is known for its leather, so there are shoes everywhere which got me pretty excited until I remembered I was blessed with Bigfoot’s giant feet.

Even without a pair of shoes to take home, this was one of my favourite weekends of the trip. I’ve never seen anything like this balloon festival, and I hope I can see one again someday!!

Thanks to Brooke, Kortney, and Laura for sharing their photos!
