Our final stop in Switzerland was in Zurich. We had one day to spend there and it happened to be the Swiss National Day. Most of the shops were closed for the holiday, but we did get to see some Swiss festivities. Once we checked in at the hotel we went out for a walk towards the Opera house and along the water. We stumbled upon a small festival with live music and traditional food where we hung out for a bit before heading to Zurich West.
Zurich West was a really cool part of the city. We found this spot with a bunch of old shipping containers that were converted into a restaurant and bar. We stopped there, at Frau Gerolds Garten, for lunch. I had the most amazing pulled pork sandwich with chips I could eat again and again. When we finished, we walked around the district for a bit before heading back to the hotel.
After a quick hotel nap, we went back into town to a patio for dinner while the fireworks began. Fireworks were being launched throughout the city by just about anyone and everyone. They were non-stop for hours as soon as it started to get dark. We walked around in the dark with gelato watching the festivities take place before heading to bed and getting a quick rest before our flight home to Canada.
