When in Wales

An overdue post, this trip already feels like it was ages ago! In April I had two weeks off work and headed south to Wales with my friend, Zara. We flew into Bristol and spent the day exploring there. We grabbed some Greggs and tea and headed to the Cathedral. This Cathedral is gorgeous with a beautiful garden behind it. Afterwards we headed to St. Nicholas Market for some street food before setting foot on our Banksy hunt. We came across Bristol’s oldest pub, The Llandoger Trow (a.k.a. Blackbeard’s old drinking hole) and had to channel our inner pirates and stop in for a drink.

We continued on our way to the art museum where we saw a couple Banksy originals, and then walked along the water to find one more hidden on the side of a building. We then hopped on the bus towards the Clifton Suspension Bridge before finding a cafe for cakes and tea!

We hopped on the train from Bristol and ended our first day in Cardiff.

Cardiff was a bit of a slower pace than our day in Bristol, but we had fun nonetheless! We obviously started the day at Pettigrew Tea Rooms which is located in Bute Park, just off Cardiff Castle. We stuffed ourselves with scones and then rolled ourselves around the park before going to see the castle. From there we stopped into a few of the many Victorian arcades before indulging in more treats from Madame Fromage. From the centre of Cardiff we took the bus out to the bay. There we went into the Norwegian church craft market and then walked around by the water. It was a little windy that day, but being by the water was beautiful.

On our final day in Wales we took the train to Abergavenny. Again we started our day at a tea room with sandwiches, scones, and cakes! We walked to the castle from there, enjoying the grounds and making our way through the museum inside. Close to the castle is a really pretty garden we went into before heading back to the main strip for a bit of shopping and (you guessed it) more cakes!

The cake tour of Wales was so much fun and I’d love to come back next time for some hikes and outdoor activities (to work off all the cakes).
